We think it’s safe to say the traditional Indian thali tasting evening last week was a success!
Guests tucked into an 8 dish thali plate.
All thalis were served with pilau rice, nan bread, mini poppadoms, band gobi bhaji (cabbage and potatoes with fresh herbs and spices) and tarka dal (lentils cooked and sizzled in garlic sauce, garnished with coriander).
The 3 remaining dishes picked by each customer from the following options:
Keema Palak – minced lamb cooked with spinach and spices. Quite a dry consistency.
Punjabi Lamb Qorma – authentic Indian Qorma. Spicy flavour with a kick of garam masala and green chillies.
Desi Chicken Karahi – authentic Pakistani dish made with tomatoes, green chillies and caramelised onions. Dry consistency. Garnished with fresh ginger and coriander.
Chicken Afghani – chicken stir-fried with fresh green chillies, ginger, garlic and onions. Red and green capsicums give this dish a vibrant appearance and a spicy taste.
Lamb Rogan Josh – lamb delicately spiced and cooked to its distinctive deep red colour with the use of sweet pimentos, capsicums and tomatoes.
Chicken Dopiaza – an authentic Indian dish with onions cooked two ways – our recipe has small fried onions in the sauce and larger chunks of lightly cooked onions added at the end.
The dishes went down a storm with our tasters and they’ll be making an appearance on our specials menu very soon!
